Introduction
My name is Robert Tanniru and I am a Ph.D. student in Computer Science focusing on Bioinformatics at Wayne State University. I attended Oakland University for one year before transferring to Wayne State. I earned my bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
Research
I am currently focusing my research on the field of Bioinformatics and have recently started delving into the topic of protein secondary structure prediction. In the past I have researched computational methods for determining how mutations to an organism's DNA affect the function of the mutated cell and the organism as a whole. I am also interested in the relationship between Cancer and aging on a DNA level.
Publication
I have written research papers on Genetic Robustness for my Bioinformatics class and Genome Wide Association Studies for my Data Mining class in the Fall 2012 semester at OU. I also wrote a paper on Change in Information Content of DNA-binding Sites due to Mutations for my Research Seminar class in the Winter 2013 semester.
I am finishing up an extension to my Genetic Robustness paper to submit for publication in a Bioinformatics journal.
I have written a paper on Grafting Numbers that has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Combinatorial Mathematics and Combinatorial Computing.

Teaching
I worked as a teaching and research assistant for OU. I have been a teaching assistant for intro programming classes in Visual Basic and Java.
Experience
After my undergrad degree, I worked for Microsoft as a Software Development Engineer. At Microsoft, I gained experience at C#, Javascript, and SQL. I have also had experience coding side projects in Java and Visual Basic.Net. Recently, my Bioinformatics research work has given me experience in Matlab.
Hobbies
When not in front of a computer screen, I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, math problems, card games, and coming up with ideas for the next great mobile app.
